Dear Confrères et Consoeurs:

About a week ago, sixteen of us enjoyed a great summer evening, tasting multiple amazing 1997 Italian red wines from Barbaresco, Super Tuscan and Barolo. The Italian restaurant that hosted our Mondiale group, was the long time established restaurant Perche' No and Vino in Greenlake. Chef and owner David Kong and his wife Lilly prepared a seven course meal that perfectly matched the theme of the event. The ambiance could not have been better and each of us took pride sharing these great wines coming from our cellar.

Maybe some of you are not familiar with la Société Mondiale du Vin, so please let me share with you some information that you might find helpful. La Société Mondiale du Vin is a "sub -chapter" of the Chaîne des Rotisseurs where the focus is on the wine, and crafted beverages. Some of the Chaîne members are also members of the Société Mondiale. To become a Mondiale member, you have to be first a Chaîne member. In Seattle, we have about 50 members. However, here are some of the benefits when joining the Société Mondiale:

1. The size of the events are smaller, making them more personal and intimate.
2. It is a great opportunity to share some of your own best wines with your friends.
3. The venues are very diverse and original; from Malt tasting to a Champagne evening or even wine makers tasting events.
4. Develop a more in depth-knowledge on the "do's" and "don't do's" on wine tasting.
5. Support and take advantage of our Jeune Sommeliers to benefit from their expertise and passion in enhancing our wine education.
6. Meet wine professionals that can present and promote their wines so we can be more experienced when buying wines.
7. Participate to special wine trips.
8. Belong to a group that recognizes the importance of only drinking great wines and loves to share them with their Mondiale fellow members.

If you are a member of the Chaîne and have a special interest in wines and crafted beverages, we welcome you to join our Société Mondiale du Vin. The cost to join includes the $60 one time induction fee (there is a specific induction) and the annual dues of $35. The financial commitment is quite reasonable. Our Vice Echanson is planning a Mondiale Induction event next November. It would be a good time to join.

As a reminder, our picnic is coming up fast. Please send your reservation form as soon as possible. (August 22nd)

Finally, please mark your calendar, as the date of the Chaîne dinner at Café Juanita has changed to Sunday, October 31st.
